The Knucklehead(s) of the Day Award

Goes to Spencer High School Principal Olivia Rutledge, Asst. Principals Alfred Parham and Wendell Turner, Spencer High School teacher Felicita Pescia(A 2004 teacher of the year. What a Joke!) and Muscogee School Superintendant John Phillips for their outrageous handling of 17-year-old Kevin Francois, a boy who just wanted to talk on a cellphone to his mother currently serving in Iraq. The boy was on his lunch break when accosted by Knucklead teacher Ms. Pescia who has nothing better to do in a month we celebrate motherhood and our country's fallen war dead.

This is a followup to yesterday's common sense post.

The suspension has been shortened from ten days to three but these knuckleheads still show a warped and misplaced sense of priorities. What is more important, a boy's education or imposing a rule? What matters most? It's apparent to me these people care less about education than about exerting their power.

Here's another article from the Columbus GA Ledger-Enquirer

http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/mld/ledgerenquirer/news/local/11586471.htm

The school is shocked this story has gone world-wide. So much so the school had to take their phones off the hook. Gee what do you expect when you act so outrageously? Come on, all the people involved in this suspension should be ashamed of themselves. It's not too late for this to be fixed, you're only looking like bigger knuckleheads by holding out.

Its been suggested the boy arrange with the school to receive his Mom's phone calls. Why is this necessary? The mother was already calling while her son was on lunch break. Anyone who has had a relative in Iraq calling can tell you that these too few calls are also unreliable connections. So the school gets the call, an administrator sees it and has someone go find the student. 5 times out of ten by the time the student gets to the office the connection is lost.

Another thing, why aren't the NAACP, Civil Rights people or even Jesse Jackson speaking out about this outrage? Is it because most of these same people are opposed to what we are doing in Iraq? To be fair this all happened very recently, these people may be stepping in as Iwrite and I hope they do. At least a local attorney can represent this boy pro bono in this matter.

This is just another reason why the citizens of this country got to remind elected officials and non-elected bureaucrats who they really work for. THE PEOPLE. If we don't, we have no one to blame for these outrages but ourselves.
