Feeling Hopeful
Hearing Sarah and David

ROAD TRIP.....BUT, NOT FAR!

Hello, I hope everyone had a great Sunday and your Monday has been enjoyable.

Sarah, David and I had to run to Samson this afternoon to return some movies to the video store so we decided to stop by the "Samson Log Cabin Museum" and  take a few pictures!

Samson is the small town that is the nearest to us.  We do a lot of business there and have attended church in Samson. The kid's go to school there so it's kinda like our hometown. They have the nicest little pioneer museum trucked away on the edge of town.  I have driven by it hundreds of time but, never really stopped to take a tour.

I am beginning to believe that God is using my camera to teach me to slow down and enjoy what He has blessed us with and enjoy the simple things of life.

I really enjoyed the old buildings.  I got upset a little because there was such a great treasure there and, it was not being properly cared for and maintained! They have a very large main house that is packed with furniture from days long gone.  They were all behind bars and locked but, I could tell that the beautiful antiques were not being looked after since they were covered with dust.  They have a old smoke house and a root cellar.  The barn was filled with old wagons  and antique tools.  They also had a cane grinder and huge iron boiling pots!

Exciting and sad because my children kept asking what the things were and I thought they should be giving tours to the school kids and teaching them about these things of the past not just sitting here behind pad locks and covered with dust.  They were looking at history and didn't even realize.

The museum is not even a block from both schools and within walking distance.  It would probably be one of the greatest teaching tools for history they could ever use and it was sitting covered with dust.

I believe that our children should learn about all things of our past.

O.K....Now!........ Where did I put that soapbox!

Our Mother had two big wagon wheels that was on each side of the driveway.
Some of the wood on one was beginning to rot.  She thought we shoud be albe
to go right and get a replacement.  So Sad I guess most of them are gone.
They were like the ones in the picture of the wagon.  I love the older things.
Most of them out last todays products.  Just love Rustic things.

Good thinking.  Kids should see and learn of the past, it is a wonderful heritage we in the USA have.
In traveling Sherry have stopped at many small town museums.  To me many are as interesting as the Smithsonian.  It is too bad many do not have the funds nor the volunteers to do the upkeep.
The up keep of artifacts is an on going job,  we lose so many to neglect and lsck of interest.  Another good entry.  Loved it!  (and the pictures) jack

    Hi Randy,
Thanks for stopping by.  I have read some of your journal entries in the past and really laugh and enjoy it.  The pictures are great.  Yesterday's entry was also interesting since I was first introduced to tomato gravy about 5 years ago from an old farmer.  I make it on occasion for city folks and they love it.  Stay on that soap box.  Maybe write a letter to the local goverment representative.  Things like this should be used for education.  Maybe it is a lack of funding.  This could mean a whole new quest.

Ok Randy.  Get off your soap box and make a few calls and see if you can
git r dun.  Sometimes it only takes a concerned citizen to fuel the fire under someone who has time on their hands and pride in their town.  It's worth a phone call or two.  Love your photo's.
