Billy Update

I'm happy to report it seems Billy has made it through his bout of colic without relapse.  The vet thinks it may have been the drastic change in temperature & humidity. He has seen an increase in founder & colic since the weather turned but we'll probably never know why it happened.

My mom checked him yesterday around 12:30 and we were quite concerned as he had not had a bowel movement yet.

I went down to feed at 3:30 and to my glee I saw he had a nice pile of poop.  Yeah, I know... BUT if you are a horse person you know how beautiful a pile of poop is when going through a colic.  Ya gotta love the farm life!

When I checked on him a few hours later he had another poop.  Mom put him to bed around 9:00 last night and he was doing okay.  She said this morning he ate, drank & seemed okay, colic wise.

He is very stiff & sore so something else is going on with him.  This is the horse the farrier butchered by cutting back his hooves too far and ever since we've had nothing but problems.  The x-rays show no bone rotation/founder and he is not on grass. We are sticklers with pasture management this time of year since the new grass will surely colic or founder a horse.

We have now have an "in" with one of the best Tennessee Walking Horse farriers on the East Coast.  Hopefully he will be able to see Billy soon and between him and some bloodwork maybe we can get the boy feeling better.

Thanks for all the well wishes & Prayers.  I  hope we can figure out what is going on and he makes a full recovery.

    Hello~
So true, when you have horses you poop is a wonderful thing!!!! I would love the farm life-----good and bad. And I would make one hell of a great co-workers/hand...LOL. Nothing too much bothers me.

Just heard about Billy, I'm sure he'll do alright.  Reminds me of "Lady" she was a Tennessee Walker too, grew up riding her, a beautiful chesnut dream for any little girl.  Your entry brought back nice mems, thanks.  I swear I could almost smell the sweetness of hay and mucking the stalls!  xoxo CATHY

Sorry to hear about Billy's colic, and I'm glad he's doing better now.  Hope he continues to do well.  I'll be back by as soon as I can to catch up with all you "doings".

I am so glad to read the good news about Billy Lisa.  Our prayers certainly winged their way to him, and you, when they were desperately needed.
I hope he keeps improving steadily.
    Much love

    Hi,

Sending glow for Billy's recovery. I rode a Tenn waler once. Was way cool. Horse changed gaits so fast he almost threw me, LOL. I posted a cute cat cartoon. Check it out when you have the time.
