Goodbye, Atlee!!

Ecstatic | "Boyz In the Hood"

The ghosts of Atlee Hammaker may now rest in peace!

With one gorgeous swing, my new favorite player Hank "Don't call me Mookie" Blaylock pulled out his pimp hand and made Sonny Corleone proud - putting the Chicago All-Star game embarrassment badge squarely on the bloated chest of the punk Dodger Eric Gagne.

Gone will be the high, er, lowlights of Giants pitchers getting punked in the All Star game - Atlee getting slammed by Fred Lynn, Big Daddy getting shelled by Bo Jackson and (...sigh...) Wade "Chicken Man" Boggs ...all to be replaced now by the Dodgers embarrassing themselves. Fox can run Blaylock's massive shot off of Gagne with the film from a couple years ago of Tommy Lasagne getting knocked on his "slimfast" ass by a broken bat and rolling around like a weeble-wobble.

Gagne, as always, looked like he belonged working the rusted-out tilt-a-whirl at a trailerpark fair somewhere in southern Oklahoma, sucking down funnel cakes and not bothering to wipe the powdered sugar out of his straggly excuse for a beard. He came in heralded by Tim McCarver as the second coming of the Eck, the National league essentailly having "made it a seven inning game" becuse he (and Johnny "never got off the bench" Schmotlz - yes, the spelling is intentional) was so dominant that the AL hitters had no chance.

Um, in a word, no.

In another word, Gone!

Whether the 7th game of the series home field was on the line or not, this was the best all star game in my memory....Tommy is still probably drowning his sorrow in pasta as we speak!!!

It always makes me happy to see a Dodger get taken deep to end the game. Can you say Tom Niedenfurer?

The only problem with the great drama of last night's All Star affair is Bud Selig. He is likely to claim it was because the home field advantage was on the line that this game was so good. As if just that incentive was what drove these guys to hit the dingers and tighten their fastball grips just a bit.

I must admit, I thought with Gagne, Schmoltz and Wagner the NL had the upper hand, should they gain a lead. But Billy and Eric blew it, and Schmoltz kept sitting.

    Nice to see such
