tomorrow morning its off to Boston for a weekend of Red Sox games at Fenway, Guiness & Bushmills (separate glasses) at the Black Thorn, and Fresh Lob-stah for every meal.

Its a pity the Red Sox are in the tank and fading fast from the playoff race, but hey, it IS August, so what would we expect? Games at Fenway are special regardless of the Sox success or lack thereof. I'll post photos on Monday, but really this is something everyone should experience.

The best part about the trip might be that by leaving I avoid making a presentation to our big boss about a new product we're trying to build - instead letting my boss handle it. Thanks Jefe!

There will be little sound or fury in the next 3 days, but for those 2 or 3 poor souls who read this, you'll be alright, know I'll be at Fenway being tortured by the Sox awful bullpen blowing leads and losing heartbreaking games...bring on that guiness and bushmills!

ok, so this is right up there with Oakland schools deciding they are going to teach "ebonics" as part of their standard curiculum.

High school students in Beaufort County (South Carolina) will have a chance this school year to pass a class no matter how poorly they do in the first semester

Did I miss the meeting where it was decided that school was no longer supposed to educate children and prepare them to succeed in life?

Of course, in a society where we no longer allow children's sports games to have scores, and we award trophies to all who participate, because we need to protect their fragile self esteem by eliminating from them all opportunities to actually build any, I suppose this makes sense.

So, no matter how poorly I do in the first semester I can get no lower than a 62% - allowing me to easily get a "C" in the class just by doing decent work in the 2nd half.

Would I EVER have gone to class in the first half of the year if my highschool had this policy?!?! (um, hint, the answer is "hell no")

People continue to amaze me...

11 days and counting until we are set free from the suburban hell of south riding. thank (insert mythical character of choice)!!

saturday night our neighbors decided to have a party outside in the street and blast music until lord knows when. party - fine. music - fine. but outside?!?!?! i was gratified when the sky opened up and poured hellaciously on them for several hours, including some quality lightening.

anyway....packing is not fun. a million things to do, also not fun. but, in 11 days, it will all be worth it. here's to my sanity holding up that long....

in a typically disgusting act of selfishness, France is holding up resolution of the awful Lockerbie bombing incident and preventing the families of its victims from recieving compensation.

Is this based on some moral or legal objection?

Of course not.

France doesn't want this to happen until they get a greater piece of pie for a separate incident they believe (though they never proved) Libya was also behind.

For once, just once, is France not capable of putting its self-obsession and megolomania aside for the good of others?!?! ...for my money, California wine is good enough, these people should have been left to speak German.

one can read on Google and other places about the intention of Walmart to team up with E&J Gallo Winery of Modesto, Calif in the production of some very inexpensive wines for sale in Walmart.

"Some Walmart customers soon will be able to sample a new discount item -- Walmart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of Modesto, Calif., to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-$5 range. While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Walmart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a market for cheap wine, said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI."

Now, I doubt very much that such is actually true (sounds pretty "bad internet hoax for the purpose of making a joke"-like) and frankly I could not possibly care less, as I would no sooner actually go to Walmart to buy wine than I would intentionally place any swill from Gallo anywhere near my mouth. However, this little list of potential names for such a beverage is rather humorous, almost enough to make the idea bearable....(I am a fan of number 7, personally)

The top 12 suggested names for Walmart Wines:
12. Chateau Traileur Parc
11. White Trashfindel
10. Big Red Gulp
9. Grape Expectations
8. Domaine Walmart "Merde du Pays"
7. NASCARbernet
6. Chef Boyardeaux
5. Peanut Noir
4. Chateau des Moines
3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!
2. World Championship Riesling

And the number 1 name for Walmart Wine ...

1. Nasti Spumante

T-minus 16 days and counting until the exodus from the paved townhome prison community is to be complete. Hallelujah! ...I'll believe it when its done ;)

In the meantime, its all about scheduling the movers, the cleaners, packing, worrying about where to put the dogs, and nailing down closing logisitcs.... too much fun, really, dontcha think?

but it will all be worth it standing out on the (soon to be ripped out and rebuilt) back deck and looking as far as the eye can see, 180 degrees, and not seeing one single, solitary man-made thing, much less throngs of screaming I-will-grow-uo-to-be-a-terrorist-or-militiaman children running around and "fundamentalist christian church, meeting in elementary school, wants your money!" signs on every corner....

3 minutes closer since I started this....

this is SO WRONG in so many ways, I don't know how to react; disgust, horror, anger, sadness, perhaps all of them? Having lost my father not all that long ago, I simply cannot CONCIEVE of how someone could do this sort of thing. Truly sickening.

and, adding insult to injury, this goes on as the A's decapitate the Sox playoff chances on the field

Not a great week in Red Sox Nation.

This story is so stupid in so many ways, it is only worth writing about as a plea:

Please do not vote for this woman ever, under any circumstances: Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas

1. who the F cares?!?!?!

2. aren't there more important things to whine about? Does having a tropical storm named after you really help the African Amercian cause in some way?

3. Would someone else not bitch about racial stereotypes if we had a Hurricane Tyrone or Tropical Storm Shemiqua?

For Christ's sake - we have Hurricane Kevin on the list for this year - could Kevin not be a black man's name?!?!?

Oh, no, we need to use racially stereotypical black names.....what an SMF!
